The a.r.t. teacher rummage sale #2 is in the works.  Save the date on your iPhones and Blackberries for Saturday, August 27, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.  We had such a strong interest for the first one, that we just had to put a second rummage on the a.r.t. calendar.  This event is such a win-win-WIN situation.  Teachers helping teachers … educators helping local art organizations… teachers helping kids get more art.  Like our successful benefit concert this past spring, we will be adding to that pile of moola and making donations to A.W.E. (Artists Working in Education) and The Skylight Theatre.

Under these heavy, gray clouds of budget cuts and with the elimination of a variety of school programs, it is time to be creative.  This a.r.t. rummage sale is unique in the way that it only includes classroom materials  (posters for bulletin boards,  curriculum books, hands-on math items for centers, etc.).  If you or anyone you know is a teacher, it is pricey to pop into one of those teacher stores (especially at the end of the summer when the summer money budgets are not as plump as in June). So, why not get your teacher Tupperware buckets together and help each other out?  Especially if you or someone you know is retiring or moving grade levels, this next a.r.t. event is not to be missed.

Thanks to Rochelle and the wonderful staff at ECU/east side, donations can be dropped off in the lobby August 22-26  from10am to 6pm. (Sorry, no donations will be accepted on Saturday.)

We have added a “Bring One, Take One” to the day.  A collection box will be set up to drop off new art supplies for the Arts @ Large programs taking place in many Milwaukee schools.  Just bring a packet of crayons, markers, scissors, glue, etc. and you can grab rummage items for your classroom.  (Limit 3 please.)  Let’s take advantage of those Back to School Sales, a.r.t.-ists.    See you in August…

Dance and love,

Christina Ratatori, a.r.t.’s founding director
